What may I recycle in Buncombe County?

How to Prepare Recyclables

Please help make recycling happen by preparing your recyclable materials as requested. What can be recycled and how these materials have to be prepared is determined by the businesses that make products from recycled materials.
Careful preparation and separation of recyclables is important. Manufacturers require clean and contaminant free materials to make new products. You can help!
REMOVE all caps & recycle (labels my remain on bottles)
RINSE all bottles and cans.
Empty aerosol cans – remove lids.
FLATTEN plastic jugs and plastic soda bottles.
BREAK DOWN and FLATTEN all corrugated cardboard.

If you live OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS in the County, recycling may open to you.

Buncombe County: All franchised haulers are required by the County to provide curbside recycling service through the “Blue Bag” system. If you are a customer of a franchised hauler, like Waste Pro, you may recycle using the blue bag system.

Henderson County: Some of the franchised haulers in the county participate in the blue bag system. Please contact your hauler for additional information. The Henderson County Solid Waste Department also provides the County with a drop-off site for recyclable materials.

Madison, Transylvania, and Yancey Counties: All provide drop-off sites for recyclable materials. Please contact your individual county office for details and directions.

Blue bags may be purchased at our local Wal-Mart and Ingles Food Stores. Blue Bags may be used for all recyclables. Co-mingle recyclables such as magazines, newsprint, mixed paper, plastic, metal, and glass in the same blue bag. Blue bags should be placed at the curb next to your trash container for pickup
